Sweeny, Texas is a very unique place in so many different ways.  To get to town, you have to leave the major highways.  If you've driven through town, you were certainly lost. It isn't on any major highways, so if you've been here before, you had a good reason.  Now there is a good chance that you might have seen one of the signs pointing towards town though, but that's usually the extent of your experience with Sweeny, unless you're from here.

If you stood on Main Street, within walking distance, you will find everything including Sweeny High School, Sweeny Junior High School, and Sweeny Elementary.  While the majority of students live within Sweeny city limits, each of the schools allow for a certain number of students living outside the district to attend these schools, but you have to plan ahead if you want your child accepted.  The Sweeny High School mascot and team name is the Sweeny Bulldogs.

The City of Sweeny has a Chamber of Commerce, a Public Library, a Community Hospital, Elderly Care, Apartment Complexes, Police Department, Fire & Rescue, Municipal Court, Motor Vehicle Office, and much more.

Some of the restaurants located within city limits include; DairyMart, Sonic, Crust & Crumbs, Domino's Pizza, Simple Simon Pizza, Bulldog Cafe, Subway, and Stewart's Food Store.  For a bit of shopping, you can check out Joan's Dream, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Litzler's Feed Store, MJL Gifts, Vallero, Milt's Mini-mart, Lifechek Drug, G & S Auto/Hardware, and Freedom Flags.  If you're looking for a place to live, there are apartment complexes you can visit such as Ashley Forest Apartments.  Other businesses include Prosperity Bank, Pinson Cutz, Southeast Roofing & Remodeling, State Farm Insurance, Beal's Bubbles, Marsh Verterinary Clinic, and Sweeny Tire & Auto, just to name a few.

There is a large ball field at the corner of Main & Ashley Wilson that can accommodate 5-6 ball games at one time.  It has a snackbar, bleachers, and a couple of pitching machines to warm-up with.

Conoco Phillips and Chevron Phillips also have a major stake in the area.  Conoco Phillips is located in Old Ocean, which is only a few minutes drive heading out of Sweeny on Main Street (524).  They participate in most of the events held in town throughout the year and play a major role whenever possible.

While Sweeny doesn't currently have hotel or motel accommodations, you can rent a room in West Columbia, which is only about 15 minutes from Sweeny.

If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of big cities or even big city suburbs, a place like Sweeny is the place for you.  The Sweeny school system is well know for its high standards of education.

If your dream is to own your own home, the cost of housing in Sweeny is below average for the US.

Every street is lined with trees.  Homes are well cared for due to city ordinances.  People are outright friendly!  And the crime rate is well below state and national standards.

The weather is typically sunny and warm, but during the winter months, November thru February, the temperatures can drop below 50^O.  In the summer, the humidity can get up there too.  That is when you enjoy the great indoors, your swimming pool, or a short trip to the coast.

An added bonus is that Texas does not collect state income taxes!
